Joint Statement Delivered by H.E.Ambassador CHEN Xu on Behalf of a Group of Countries at the Item 2 General Debate at the 51st Session of the Human Rights Council
2022-09-13 21:42

(September 13)

Mr. President,

I have the honor to deliver this statement on behalf of a group of countries. We are deeply concerned that the OHCHR, without the authorization of the Human Rights Council and the consent of the country concerned, released the so-called “assessment” on Xinjiang, China, which is based on disinformation and draws erroneous conclusions. We are deeply worried that it will undermine dialogue and cooperation in the field of human rights, and exaggerate the existing trend of politicization and polarization at the Human Rights Council.

We believe that the OHCHR should abide by the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, respect countries’ sovereignty and territorial integrity, adhere to the principles of universality, impartiality, objectivity, non-selectivity and non-politicization, respect the authoritative information provided by the government of Member States, and conduct constructive dialogue and cooperation with Member States on the basis of equality and mutual respect.

Thank you, Mr. President.
