On August 19th 2024,Chinese Ambassador for Disarmament Shen Jian attended the 10th Conference of State Parties to the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) in Geneva.
In his statement, Ambassador Shen Jian pointed out that ATT is the sole international treaty providing legally binding standards to regulate the international trade in conventional arms under the UN framework. China officially joined the Treaty in 2020, which fully demonstrates China’s sincerity and commitment to defend the global governance system, support multilateralism and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Ambassador Shen Jian stressed that China has always been a firm supporter and a devoted practitioner of the Treaty, and also an active contributor to the global arms trade governance. With prospect to the future, China proposes to uphold multilateralism, foster common security, implement the objectives of the Treaty, fulfill national commitments, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and improve global governance. China is willing to collaborate with the international community to continuously strengthen the authority and vitality of the Treaty, and make new contributions to achieving global common security and lasting peace.
