2022-09-12 17:38

Mr. President,

I have the honor to speak on behalf of a group of countries. The ongoing resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic exerts severe impact on the economic and social development of developing countries. The pandemic exposes serious under-investment in economic, social and cultural rights, the right to development, and the right to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mentalhealth by multilateral human rights mechanisms. We therefore call on the OHCHR to attach greater importance and channel more resources to these rights, put the elimination of inequality at the core of its work, help all countries especially developing countries overcome the challenges of the pandemic and achieve their economic, social and sustainable development. The OHCHR is expected to provide human rights technical assistance based on the consent of countries concerned, in particular, help developing countries enhance human rights capacity building.

The HRC serves as a platform for constructive dialogue and cooperation for all parties. The OHCHRshall adhere to the principles of impartiality, objectivity, non-selectivity, and non-politicization,respect the right of each state to choose independently the path for human rights development in accordance with their national conditions, and oppose politicization of human rights and double standards. As mutual trust and respect between the OHCHR and each state are of vital importance the OHCHR shall respect the authoritative information provided by government of each state, which will promote effective communication and information sharing and contribute to the advancement of international human rights agenda.

Thank you, Mr. President.
