On December 10, Ambassador Andrew Bremberg, the U.S. Permanent Representative to the Office of the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, made irresponsible accusations against China in disregard of basic facts. China strongly deplores and opposes the accusations.

The promotion and protection of human rights is a shared ideal and pursuit of mankind. The Human Rights Day is an occasion for all parties to reaffirm their commitment to human rights and promote international human rights exchanges and cooperation, which shall not be exploited for making baseless accusations against and interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, or politicizing human rights.

No one has better say about human rights situation in China than the Chinese people. Seventy years ago, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people realized liberation and became their own masters. Over the past seven decades, China, under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, has pursued a people-centered philosophy of development, integrated the universal principles of human rights with national conditions, and blazed a path of human rights protection with Chinese characteristics with historic progress in its human rights cause. China lifted 850 million populations out of poverty, provided employment for 770 million people, freed nearly 1.4 billion people from want of food and clothing, thus making a historic leap from poverty to adequate food and clothing, and to a moderately prosperous society. China protects all human rights of its citizens in accordance with law, including the freedom of religious belief. There are nearly 200 million religious believers in China, including more than 20 million Muslims and more than 380,000 clerical personnel. The measures taken in Xinjiang, for the purpose of counter-terrorism and de-radicalization, have ensured no single terrorist attack over the past three years, and human rights of people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang are firmly protected. People's sense of fulfilment, happiness and security has magnificently enhanced. These measures have received high evaluation from people of vision around the world.

In contrast, in the United States, we witnessed wide-spread gun violence, widening gap between the rich and the poor, ever worsening racial discrimination and xenophobia, and tens of thousands of immigrant children forced into detention. The family separation policy has caused innumerous human tragedies, which was criticized by the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights and UN human rights experts on different occasions. Meanwhile, the U.S. has launched and engaged in several wars, overthrown legitimate governments, killed innocent citizens and arbitrarily imposed unilateral sanctions, which seriously infringed on the human rights of people of the countries concerned. With such a horrific human rights record, the United Sates has neither the moral ground nor credibility to pose itself as a human rights tutor for other countries.

We urge the U.S. to do more self-reflection, fulfill its own commitment to human rights, halt double standards and politicizing human rights, and stop interfering in the internal affairs of other countries. We encourage the U.S. to do something concrete and serious for the well-being of its own citizens and international cause of human rights, rather than the contrary.
