On November 19, the spokesperson of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights made irresponsible remarks on the case of a Chinese citizen, which China firmly opposes.

China is a country under the rule of law, and everyone is equal before the law. Whoever violates the law should be brought to justice. At the same time, we protect the legitimate rights of every citizen in accordance with the law. Turning a blind eye to information provided by China through normal channels, the OHCHR, based on hearsay, chose to interfere in China’s judicial sovereignty. Such an act is bound to be rejected and resisted by sovereign countries.

Faced with the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, China put people and people’s lives above anything else. In an open, transparent, and responsible manner, China lost no time in releasing authoritative information, and effectively responded to public expectation and built public consensus. What China has achieved in combating the pandemic is there for everyone to see, and is not something that anyone can distort or write off, still less something that the OHCHR can throw its weight around.
