On 7 April 2025, the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) held the opening ceremony of its exhibition on “Women in Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable and Inclusive Development”. Ambassador Mr. Shen Jian attended and delivered a welcoming speech.

Ambassador Shen noted that the Beijing Declaration, adopted at the World Conference on Women, incorporated gender equality in science, technology, and education into the global action agenda. Over the past three decades, the Chinese government has unwaveringly promoted inclusive development in science and technology, making significant contributions to advancing global gender equality, and later this year, China will host the Global Women Summit.

He emphasized that international cooperation in science and technology is an indispensable choice for addressing shared global challenges. China remains committed to true multilateralism, firmly opposes protectionist practices such as "decoupling" and "building fences," and steadfastly upholds the principles of openness, fairness, justice, and non-discrimination as outlined in the International Science and Technology Cooperation Initiative. Women’s participation in scientific and technological innovation is a key measure of social progress.  The accomplishments of Chinese scientists such as Tu Youyou, Fan Jinshi, and Shan Xinghua reflect the strong policy support for women in STEM fields. China stands ready to work with the international community to foster a more inclusive global community on science and technology.
