On the evening of September 25th, Ambassador Chen Xu, Permanent Representative of the Chinese Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland, Chargé d’affaires Li Yihong of the Chinese Mission to WTO and Ambassador Shen Jian for Disarmament Affairs held jointly a reception in celebration of the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Representatives of more than ten international organizations and Permanent Representatives and senior diplomats from more than a hundred countries attended the event, with the number of guests totaling around 700.

Ambassador Chen Xu said in his speech that over the past 76 years, China managed to achieve the “twin miracles” of rapid economic growth and long-term social stability. The code of its success can be found in the book series of Xi Jinping on Governance of China. Today, the cause of peace and development remains arduous, and multilateralism is facing headwinds. It is against this backdrop that President Xi Jinping put forward the timely proposal of the Global Governance Initiative. As a trusted partner of the United Nations, China has been implementing the four global initiatives of Deveopment, Security, Civilization and Governance with concrete actions, and has all along been a strong supporter of multilateralism.

The guests extended warm congratulations to China’s National Day anniversary, praised the remarkable achievements in China’s economic development and technological innovation, and spoke highly of China’s initiatives and proposals, including the one on global governance. They expressed willingness to further step up cooperation and work together toward the future.

The reception was held in a warm, dignified, and friendly atmosphere. On site, several exhibitions attracted guests’ attention, including “Embracing a Shared Future – China’s Initiatives and Global Contributions”, a photo exhibition co-organized with Xinhua’s Geneva bureau; “Endless Vitality – The Centenary of the Palace Museum at the United Nations”, a themed exhibition co-hosted with the Palace Museum; and displays on the internationalization of the Renminbi by the Bank of China. Books such as Xi Jinping on Governance of China Volume V along with cultural and creative products with distinctive Chinese characteristics were also very well received.
