Ambassador Jia Guide Meets with Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai of The Macao Special Administrative Region

On April 23, Ambassador Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland, met with Mr. Sam Hou Fai, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR). The two sides exchanged views on further strengthening communication, enhancing pltform alignment, and deepening exchanges and cooperation between Macao and international organizations.

Ambassador Jia welcomed Chief Executive Sam and noted that Macao stands as a successful example of the One Country, Two Systems principle in practice. He described Macao as an important bridge linking the Mainland with international markets, endowed with unique strengths as an international platform and making positive contributions to China’s high-level opening-up. He emphasized that the Chief Executive’s visit demonstrates the MSAR Government’s strong commitment to expanding engagement with international organizations. Ambassador Jia added that the Mission will continue to support Macao in broadening its external cooperation, better integrating into Geneva’s multilateral platform, strengthening collaboration in areas such as trade, economy, and cultural exchange, and presenting to the world the successful practice of One Country, Two Systems with Macao characteristics.

Chief Executive Sam expressed his appreciation for the Mission’s long-standing and robust support for Macao‘s participation in multilateral affairs. He briefed Ambassador Jia on the MSAR Government’s governance priorities and progress since the beginning of the current term. He noted that the MSAR Government will continue to leverage the institutional strengths of One Country, Two Systems, further consolidate Macao’s role as a bridge between the Mainland and the international community, and develop a higher-level platform for opening-up. He also highlighted efforts to expand the China–Portuguese-speaking Countries Cooperation Platform to include Spanish-speaking countries. Chief Executive Sam reaffirmed Macao’s readiness to further align with Geneva’s multilateral system, enhance coordination in upholding multilateralism and improving global governance, actively participate in international rule-making, and elevate exchanges and cooperation between Macao and international organizations to a new level.
