On July 3, 2026, H.E. Mr. Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland, hosted the Working Lunch on the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law (the Initiative). The event was attended by Permanent Representatives of the Initiative’s founding States, including Brazil, France, Jordan, Kazakhstan, and South Africa, as well as the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The participating parties reviewed the progress made since the launch of the Initiative in September 2024 and exchanged views on the key next steps, in particular the High-Level Conference on Humanity in War, to be held on 7 December 2026 in Jordan. They agreed that, against the backdrop of the current highly complex international landscape and recurring regional conflicts, the Initiative’s co-founding States and the ICRC should further deepen cooperation to advance the Initiative jointly, so as to contribute to galvanizing political commitment to respecting and implementing International Humanitarian Law and promoting the development of the international humanitarian cause.
