On April 20, 2026, H.E. Mr. Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland met with Ms. Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The two sides exchanged views on enhancing cooperation and reinforcing humanitarian spirit.
Ambassador Jia Guide said that facing severe humanitarian crisis in the world, China, as an active supporter of, participant in, and contributor to the international humanitarian cause, has all along actively fulfilled its humanitarian responsibilities. China is prepared to collaborate more closely with the ICRC to promote the universal and uniform application of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and to advance peace and progress of humanity.
Ms. Mirjana Spoljaric expressed appreciation of China's positive role and important contributions in the international humanitarian cause and emphasized that the ICRC operates on principles of impartiality, neutrality, and independence to provide protection and assistance to people affected by conflict, and seeks to further strengthen cooperation with China across multiple fields, so as to jointly promote the development of the international humanitarian cause.
