On April 2, 2026, the 79th World Health Assembly adopted by vote a draft decision titled “Health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem, and in the occupied Syrian Golan”. H.E. Mr. Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland called for improved health conditions in the Occupied Palestinian Territory during his intervention.

Ambassador Jia Guide said that since the recent escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the health condition in the occupied Palestinian territory has deteriorated sharply. Human lives must not be disregarded; hospitals should not become battlefields; and medical personnel and humanitarian workers should not be targeted. He called on all parties concerned to fully comply with the ceasefire agreement, earnestly fulfill its obligations under international law, lift access restrictions on humanitarian supplies, and ensure that humanitarian agencies such as the World Health Organization can carry out humanitarian assistance in a safe, continuous and unhindered manner.

Ambassador Jia Guide emphasized that China firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate national rights, and that the two-State solution is the only viable way forward for the Palestinian question. The international community should take concrete actions to promote a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the question of Palestine at an early date, so as to address the root causes of the long-standing violations of the local people’s rights to health and survival.
