On May 21, 2026, H.E. Mr. Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland, paid a courtesy call on Dr. Musonda Mumba, the Secretary General of the Ramsar Convention. The two sides had an exchange of views on global environmental governance and bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Jia Guide stated that, supporting the full implementation of the Ramsar Convention is integral to improving global environmental governance and promoting sustainable development. Under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Eco-Civilization, China places equal emphasis on economic development and ecological conservation. China is an important participant, contributor and trailblazer in global ecological conservation. Under the guidance of the important theory of “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” put forward by President Xi Jinping, we stand ready to continue deepening cooperation with the Secretariat .

Secretary General Mumba welcomed Ambassador Jia’s assumption of office. She appreciated China's firm support for the Secretariat's work, commended China's outstanding achievements in wetland conservation. The Secretariat is willing to strengthen cooperation with China and jointly make greater contribution to the advancement of global wetland conservation.
