Welcome to the website of the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland.

Home to a large number of UN specialized agencies and other international organizations, Geneva is one of the most historic and dynamic centers of multilateral diplomacy. It serves as an important platform for international communication, cooperation, negotiation, and rule-making in such fields as human rights, disarmament and security, global health, humanitarian affairs, trade and development, science and technology, environmental protection, and labor. Geneva plays a vital role in enhancing global governance and enabling the international community to jointly address global challenges.

Geneva also holds special historical significance for China’s multilateral diplomacy. In 1954, Premier Zhou Enlai led the Chinese delegation to the Geneva Conference on the Korean War and Indochina, marking the debut of the People’s Republic of China on the stage of multilateral diplomacy as one of the five major countries. Since 1971, when the People's Republic of China's lawful seat in the United Nations was restored and it returned to international institutions in Geneva, China has actively participated in multilateral diplomacy and made important contributions to safeguarding world peace, promoting development, and advancing international cooperation. In 2017, President Xi Jinping, in his speech at the United Nations Office at Geneva, elaborated on the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind and outlined a blueprint for the progress and development of human society, contributing Chinese wisdom to global governance.

As the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, we will rally more closely around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, be guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era—particularly Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy—remain committed to an independent foreign policy of peace, uphold true multilateralism, safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core, advance the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative, and work with the international community to build an open, inclusive, clean, and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security, and common prosperity.

Thank you for visiting the website of the Permanent Mission. We hope it will help you gain a better understanding of China’s development and foreign policy, particularly its practices and contributions in multilateral affairs. Your insights and suggestions are most welcome.
