Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good evening! On behalf of my colleagues, Ambassador Li Yongjie to the WTO and Ambassador Li Chijiang for Disarmament Affairs, I warmly welcome you to this reception celebrating the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Over the past 77 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, China has stood up, grown prosperous and become strong, achieving rapid economic growth and long-term social stability.
At the heart of this transformation are the Chinese people.
We have advanced whole-process people’s democracy and ensured that our people enjoy a wide range of civil and political rights under the law.
We have lifted more than 800 million people out of poverty since the start of reform and opening-up. The economic, social and cultural rights of the Chinese people are fully protected.
These achievements have been made possible by following a path suited to China’s national conditions. We will stay on this path and realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
China’s development is also closely linked to that of the world.
As the world’s second-largest economy, China has contributed around 30 percent of global growth. We are a major trading partner for more than 160 countries and regions and have granted zero-tariff treatment to 63 countries.
Our message is clear: China will open its economy further to the world.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
This year also marks the 55th anniversary of the restoration of the lawful seat of the People’s Republic of China in the United Nations.
In 1971, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758, which resolved the question of the representation of the whole of China, including Taiwan, in the United Nations, and affirmed the one-China principle.
Since then, China has grown from a participant in the international system into an active defender of and contributor to the international order.
Our share of the UN regular budget has risen from less than one percent to over 20 percent, making China the second-largest contributor. We have consistently paid our assessed contributions in full and on time.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
We are living in a world of profound changes. Conflicts persist, unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise, and rapid technological advances are reshaping our world. No country can meet these challenges alone. International cooperation is more important than ever.
Allow me to highlight three priorities.
First, we must uphold the authority of the United Nations.
The UN was founded after two devastating world wars, to ensure that relations among States are governed by international law, not the law of the jungle.
We must uphold the authority of the UN and advance the UN’s three pillars—peace and security, development and human rights—in a balanced manner.
Second, we must uphold true multilateralism.
China advocates an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization.
That means: all countries, large or small, should have an equal voice in international affairs. And globalization should be open to every country, work for everyone, and leaves no one behind.
Third, we must make global governance more just and equitable.
Building on the Global Development, Security and Civilization Initiatives, President Xi Jinping has put forward the Global Governance Initiative.
It sets out five core principles: sovereign equality, international rule of law, multilateralism, a people-centred approach and a commitment to real action.
These principles offer a constructive way forward in a world of growing uncertainty.
Effective global governance also requires constructive relations among major countries.
The reciprocal visits by President Xi Jinping and President Trump within six months mark an important milestone in Sino-US relations. They have helped advance a constructive relationship of strategic stability, bringing greater certainty to the world and contributing to global peace ,stability and prosperity.
China stands ready to work with all countries to build a more just and equitable system of global governance.
Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Geneva, as the international hub, has long been an important platform for China’s international engagement.
We work closely with countries and international organizations across a wide range of fields to reform and strengthen multilateral institutions and deliver practical outcomes.
At the Human Rights Council, we engage actively across issues, build consensus with partners, and advance resolutions including the renewed “Accessibility for All.”
At the WHO, we support negotiations on the PABS Annex to the Pandemic Agreement.
We also support the Global Dialogue on AI Governance and the Global Initiative to galvanize political commitment to International Humanitarian Law.
Across these fields, our goal is the same: to turn shared commitments into concrete action.
Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Tonight, we also celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, one of China’s most cherished traditions.
For generations, the full moon has symbolized reunion.
So, on this special evening, let us enjoy the full moon together, uphold multilateralism together, and work together for a community with a shared future for humanity.
Now, please join me in a toast:
To the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China!
To lasting peace and common prosperity!
And to the health and happiness of you and your families! Cheers!
