On August 10 and 11, 2026, H.E. Mr. Li Chijiang, the newly-appointed Deputy Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for Disarmament Affairs, presented his credentials respectively to Ms. Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva and Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament (CD), and Ambassador Tormod C. Endresen, Permanent Representative of Norway and President of the Conference on Disarmament.

Ambassador Li stated that, China actively promotes the building a community with a shared future for humanity and implements the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, and is committed to improving the international security environment, enhancing international security cooperation, addressing international security challenges and improving global security governance. China stands ready to work with all parties to uphold true multilateralism, consolidate and develop the international arms control system with the United Nations at its core, and make unremitting efforts to build a world of lasting peace and universal security.

Director-General Valovaya and CD President Ambassador Endresen welcomed Ambassador Li to his new post and commended China for the important role it plays in global governance. They expressed their readiness to further deepen coordination and cooperation with China and jointly address global security challenges.
