On August 21, 2026, Ambassador Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, met with H.E. Mr. Innocent Alaoma Iwejuo, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Ambassador Jia Guide stated that over the 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Nigeria have consistently upheld mutual respect and mutual benefit, setting a successful example of South-South cooperation and serving as an important model for China-Africa cooperation. In 2024, the two heads of state announced the elevation of China-Nigeria relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership. In the face of a world fraught with turbulence and transformation, China and Nigeria need to strengthen solidarity and cooperation more than ever. China stands ready to work with Nigeria to implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state at Geneva platform, strengthen communication and coordination, and make positive contribution to improving global governance.

Chargé d’Affaires Iwezuo said that Nigeria and China enjoy close cooperation in political, economic and trade, and people-to-people and cultural fields. Nigeria appreciates China’s sense of responsibility and leadership as a major country and thanks China for its strong support for Nigeria’s economic and social development. Nigeria is ready to closely coordinate with China and jointly safeguard the common interests of developing countries at Geneva platform.
