On September 29, 2026, Ambassador Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland, met with Teresa Cheng, Secretary-General of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed). The two sides exchanged views on the development of IOMed and other issues.
Ambassador Jia said that IOMed is the world’s first intergovernmental legal organization dedicated to resolving international disputes through mediation, offering a new option for the peaceful settlement of international disputes. He expressed the hope that IOMed will leverage its professional strengths, seek greater synergy with other international organizations, dispute settlement institutions and relevant professional communities, and play an active role in facilitating the peaceful settlement of disputes and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation, thereby contributing to greater fairness and justice in international affairs.
Secretary-General Cheng briefed Ambassador Jia on the work of IOMed. She noted that Geneva is an important hub for multilateral diplomacy and brings together a wide range of institutions and expertise in international law and dispute settlement. IOMed stands ready to make full use of Geneva’s strengths as a multilateral platform, strengthen exchanges and engagement with relevant parties, enhance the international community’s understanding of mediation mechanisms, and contribute to the continued development of international mediation practice.
