On the evening of 9 July 2026, Ambassador Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, met with Mr. Pedro Manuel Moreno, Acting Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, at the Ambassador’s residence. The two sides exchanged views on the current international economic and trade situation and on further deepening cooperation between China and UNCTAD.

Ambassador Jia said that the global economic recovery remains weak, while unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise, creating greater difficulties and challenges for developing countries. China supports UNCTAD in upholding a development-oriented approach, fully reflecting the common concerns of the Global South, and playing a greater role in promoting common development and improving global economic governance.

Mr. Moreno said that UNCTAD attaches great importance to its cooperation with China and appreciates China’s longstanding support for the development of the Global South. UNCTAD stands ready to work with China to implement the important common understandings reached by the two sides, deepen practical cooperation, better serve developing countries, and contribute to inclusive and sustainable development.
